For Valentine's night we had a reservation at the Jules Verne on the Eiffel Tower. We were taken on the "Princess Diana" route through the underpass, in the Crillon's limousine - in his tuxedo and me in my silk evening dress being delivered to the Eiffel Tower by uniformed chaffeur, it was like being a movie star !We were seated right in the window of the restaurant, overlooking the Trocadéro. I fondly imagine that TomKat might have been seated at this table when he proposed. The dinner was a special 6 course set menu.
Foie Gras Lucullus - a foie mousseline topped with madeira jelly and truffle shavings
Cold lobster served with watercress purée
Fillet of sea bass with cèpes
Saddle of lamb served with artichokes barigoule and game chips
Heart shaped rose macaron (ispahan style) served with rose ice cream
The meal was really good, especially an extremely tender piece of lamb. We were going to go to the top of the tower afterwards, but a combination of spike heeled sandals, two bottles of Champagne and a very thin dress meant that we abandoned this in favour of a cocktail in the Crillon bar. We had been sitting there for a good 20 minutes before I realised that the man sitting next to us was Liam Neeson...
